CEREC Same Day Crowns In Stockton CA

Want to Restore Your Smile Without the Hassle? Same Day Crowns with CEREC are the Answer!

If you have decayed, chipped, or fractured teeth that cannot support inlays/onlays, you need to look into same day crowns. You may already be somewhat familiar with crowns since they are colloquially known as “caps.” Crowns completely cover damaged teeth, so as you can imagine, they are excellent at restoring your smile’s appearance. However, they also have important utilitarian purposes: they allow you to retain normal functioning when eating and speaking. And if you’ve had a tooth extracted altogether, implants and crowns are even more important since jawbone density can decrease without the stimulation of tooth roots.

So if getting a crown seems like a good route, you may be wondering what’s the difference between a same day crown and a traditional crown. As the name suggests, same day crowns are permanently fitted on your damaged tooth the same day they are fabricated. Both of these crown options are sufficient for functional restoration, but same day crowns have lots of additional perks.

So How Do Same Day Crowns Made with CEREC Work? Our Stockton Office Will Show You How!

If you were to go in for a regular crown, you’d usually need two to four appointments to complete the procedure. During your first visit at Image Dental, Stephen Nozaki would shape your tooth by shaving it down so a cap could fit over it. Then, your dentist would use trays to take impressions, which would be sent to a lab so a dental technician could create your permanent crown. Lastly, your dentist would fit you with a temporary crown, which would then be swapped out at your next appointment and replaced with your permanent crown. With same day crowns, you don’t have to go through the hassle of impressions, temporary crowns, or multiple appointments.

The increased efficiency comes from CEREC technology. CEREC is the abbreviation of “CEramic REConstruction,” as well as an acronym for “chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics.” CEREC machines use both computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing tech. Dentists, like Dr. Stephen Nozaki at Image Dental, have been specially trained to use these kinds of machines in office.

During a same day crown procedure with CEREC, your dentist will either use a wand like scanner to capture all aspects of your jaw or he or she will have you bite an oral camera. Images from these devices are then loaded into the CEREC device, which can construct a meticulously detailed 3D model of your tooth.

If the dentist is satisfied with the 3D model, then he or she will insert a ceramic block into the CAM portion of the CEREC machine, where the model will be milled with exact measurements. Because these crowns are cut by computer and not by a ceramist in a lab, you’ll be able to get a crown that fits more comfortably. A good fit not only decreases any possible post-procedural pain, but it means that your bite won’t change too much either. Lastly, the crowns are also painted, glazed, and polished before being placed, so they’ll have a luster akin to your natural teeth.

As previously mentioned, CEREC devices are so efficient that you’ll be able to get all of these steps done in a single appointment. So the accuracy, speed, and aesthetics of same day crowns are well worth it!

Same Day Crowns Sound Great, Am I a Candidate?

The good news is that most people with missing, broken, or decayed teeth can consider this procedure if they are in reasonably good health. If you have poor bone density from smoking or diabetes or another issue, your dentist may recommend a graft first. Once the graft has healed, an implant can be placed in the bone tissue and a crown can be placed on top.

Of course, once the crown is placed, you will still need to maintain your good habits of flossing and brushing since a crown doesn’t guarantee that the tooth underneath won’t further decay. But if your dentist advises you not to get same day crowns, you can still take advantage of CEREC tech with other restorations, like inlays, and other materials, like gold.
